We’re looking for an experienced Head of Scaleup & Production to lead our transition from pilot- scale to commercial production. As we scale our fermentation capacity from 3,000 liters to 100,000 liters, you will be responsible for ensuring that fermentation, downstream processing (DSP), and drying are optimized and aligned for large-scale production. You will collaborate with contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), managing relationships and negotiating terms to meet our ambitious goals. This position reports directly to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all scale-up production activities while managing a team of 3 direct reports.
• Manage process scale-up from pilot to commercial production, ensuring effective technology
transfer and product quality.
• Collaborate with CMOs to ensure seamless process alignment and negotiation of contracts and
timelines.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels, production planning, and supply chain logistics to ensure
efficient demand fulfillment and streamlined operations.
• Ensure production processes are efficient and cost-effective.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure
compliance with regulations.
We are looking for
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biotechnology, chemical engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in bioprocess scale-up, with a focus on fermentation and downstream
processing.
• A couple of years of industrial experience within a regulated industry, such as food, beverage,
life sciences, or related field.
• Proven experience scaling from pilot to industrial production and working with CMOs.
• Strong project management experience where you use your natural skills within problem-solving,
communicating and managing stakeholders on all organizational levels internally as well as
externally.
