About

We’re a Denmark-based, multidisciplinary team that’s disrupting materials through innovative science and biotechnology.
Cellugy has received a number of different awards

We’re developing sustainable, high-performance materials that meet industry needs without jeopardizing the planet’s health.

But rest assured: we’re not doing it alone.
Because frankly, the plastics pollution problem is too big and urgent for anyone to tackle solo. Our sustainability systems are inherently interconnected; they rely on an entire ecosystem of people, business models, and environmental mechanisms to change.  So the sooner we collaborate across industries and the faster we learn, the better our chances of passing on a healthier planet to the generations to come.

Accelerators

Since day one, accelerators have played a crucial role in our success by opening up doors, introducing us to key collaborators and providing precious mentorship.

EIT Climate-KIC

EIT Climate-KIC is Europe’s leading knowledge community working to address climate change through innovation. EIT Climate-KIC supports climate entrepreneurs with equity free funding, training and a global network, accelerating their business with improved success rates and bigger impact. Cellugy participated in their accelerator in 2018, with focus on Business Model Development and Validation & Customer Acquisition.

Accelerace logo
Accelerace

Accelerace was founded in 2008 pioneering the European accelerator space with a rebellious spirit and lofty objective: To take great technologies of tomorrow and even greater teams under their wing to make them fly. Cellugy participated in their accelerator in 2018, obtaining consultancy services.

Innovation Network for Advanced Materials
INAM

INAM is a global innovation network in Advanced Materials.
They help find solutions for the material challenges of the future. Their goal is to enable the right connections and make technological innovations become reality. They do this by working closely with startups, SMEs, corporations and research institutes to transform the development of Advanced Materials. Cellugy participated in their Advanced Materials Competition (AdMaCom) in 2019, an Accelerator Program designed for startups with outstanding technologies and business models in Advanced Materials.

2021
Cellugy joins the EcoPark community, expands its team to 11 people, and is recognized as one of the 10 top European startups currently developing plastic alternatives.
2020
Cellugy’s team expands to 6 people and the company is among the 3% of applicants to receive the highly prestigious European Innovation Council First Green Deal Call grant.
2019
Cellugy wins 14 prestigious awards and contests, kicks off its pre-seed round, and moves into its first Aarhus offices.
2018
Cellugy is born in April when our founders win Aarhus University’s Dean’s challenge with the novel idea of replacing fossil-based plastics with bionanocellulose materials.

Cellugy’s persistent and creative scientific team is collaboratively developing a solution to a major obstacle for the biotech community: stable and super active bacterial producers of bio-nanocellulose. Sharing the journey with them is extremely exciting.

Michael Etzerodt, Associate Professor, Aarhus University

For big corporations it is essential to have innovative start-ups like Cellugy to come up with new ground breaking technologies.
